Japan advances regional residency and station cleaning DX

Several Japanese companies, including Rakuten Group, Timee, LIFULL, and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance, have launched a partnership to promote dual-region residency. The initiative aims to revitalize regional areas by utilizing a dedicated web page on Rakuten Ichiba. This platform will offer travel discounts via Rakuten Travel, introduce local short-term job opportunities through Timee, and provide information on vacant houses for potential relocation via LIFULL. Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance is also exploring insurance products to support life reconstruction and evacuation needs in these secondary residences.

In technological infrastructure, JR East, SoftBank, and partners are conducting demonstration experiments at Akabane Station to implement digital transformation (DX) in station cleaning. The project, running from late October 2026 to early 2027, utilizes IoT sensors in toilets and trash cans, AI-driven image analysis for waste detection, and physical AI cleaning robots to create a demand-driven cleaning model.

In education, a delegation from Taiwan's Ministry of Education visited Singapore to study AI integration in teacher training and classroom practices. The visit focused on Singapore's EdTech Masterplan 2030 and the use of AI to support student learning while maintaining human-centric teaching.

Regarding cybersecurity, reports highlight the risks of personal data leaks, noting that stolen information like driver's licenses and credit card details are traded on the dark web. Additionally, Kingston Technology has emphasized the importance of hardware encryption and certified security standards, such as NIST FIPS 140-3, to protect sensitive data on portable drives.
