Moonshot AI executives negotiate settlement ahead of Hong Kong IPO

Moonshot AI executives are in negotiations to resolve an arbitration dispute with former Recurrent AI investors as the Beijing-based startup prepares for a planned Hong Kong IPO in the first quarter of 2027.

The dispute, filed with the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, involves Moonshot CEO Yang Zhilin and CTO Zhang Yutao. Former investors, including GSR Ventures China, allege misconduct regarding the founding of Moonshot AI and are seeking additional equity compensation. Based on a previous $30 billion valuation, the potential claims could exceed $700 million. As Moonshot's valuation has reportedly risen to approximately $50 billion, the scale of any equity-based settlement may increase.

Moonshot has already taken steps toward its public listing, including restructuring from a limited liability company into a joint stock entity to meet Chinese regulatory requirements for overseas listings. The company aims to raise between $3 billion and $5 billion through the IPO. Moonshot has raised over $5.5 billion in total funding to date and recently released its Kimi K3 model in July 2026.
