AMD reports record $11.54 billion Q2 revenue driven by AI data center growth
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) reported record second-quarter revenue of $11.54 billion, a 50.1% year-over-year increase, driven primarily by its Data Center segment. Data center revenue more than doubled to $6.7 billion, fueled by high demand for EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs from major clients including Meta, OpenAI, and Oracle.
Despite these gains, AMD faces challenges in its gaming division, where revenue fell 31% year-over-year due to declining sales of semi-custom hardware for consoles like PlayStation 5 and Xbox. Additionally, the company's stock faced pressure following Q3 revenue guidance of $13 billion, which disappointed market expectations, and comments from Elon Musk indicating SpaceX's intention to use only NVIDIA products.
On the technical front, AMD has introduced the Ryzen AI Embedded X100 series, a new SoC integrating CPU, GPU, and NPU for physical AI applications like robotics. The company is also aggressively promoting its ROCm open-source software platform to challenge NVIDIA's proprietary CUDA ecosystem, reporting a tenfold increase in community code contributions.
