Kaufbeuren station accessibility project to finish by 2027
Deutsche Bahn has announced that the barrier-free renovation of Kaufbeuren station is now expected to be completed by the end of 2027. This is a one-year acceleration from the previous estimate of 2028, although it still falls behind the original target of late 2026.
The acceleration is due to confirmed track closure periods for 2027, which allow work on the central platform to begin sooner than previously anticipated. The project involves modernizing all platforms to a uniform height of 76 centimeters to enable level boarding. Key features include the installation of three elevators, a new passenger underpass, and inclined access points at tracks 1 and 4.
While the outer platforms are scheduled to enter operation during the December 2026 timetable change, they will not be fully barrier-free until elevators are installed in the second quarter of 2027.
