Moose in Colorado and Deer in Indiana Named State's Most Dangerous Animals

A review of wildlife hazards in the United States identifies the moose as the most dangerous animal in Colorado. Although moose are not naturally aggressive, they can cause fatal injuries when they feel threatened or when dogs are present. The animals weigh between 800 and 1,200 pounds and stand about six feet tall.

In Indiana, two different sources highlight different threats. One points to deer, which are responsible for a large number of vehicle collisions across the state. The other cites the eastern copperhead snake, a venomous species whose bites are rare; the last recorded fatal bite occurred in 1931. Both animals are considered the leading danger to humans in Indiana, depending on the metric used.
