Moravia and Silesia folklore explored in new book

A new non-fiction book titled ‘Monsters and Demons of Moravia and Silesia’ explores the dark folklore and historical legends of the Czech regions. Co-authored by Iva Hoňková and Josef Plachý, the work focuses on adult readers, detailing gruesome tales ranging from vampirism to ghosts and werewolves.

One of the most significant accounts in the book involves a historical event from 1727 at Magdalénský mlýn in Nízký Jeseník. The text describes a case of mass hysteria involving Georg Poltzer, who was allegedly a vampire; following his death, sixty children and thirteen adults were reportedly exhumed from graves and burned. The book covers various locations including Oderské vrchy, Libavsko, and the Ostrava region.
