Moravian-Silesian Region seeks continued funding for coal region transformation
The Moravian-Silesian Region is seeking continued financial support for its structural transformation following the end of coal mining. Regional representatives met with the Ministry for Regional Development to advocate for targeted funding in the next programming period starting in 2028.
Officials emphasized that while mining has ceased, the transformation process is ongoing. The region aims to prevent a shift toward generalized national support, requesting instead specific instruments to address structural issues in mining and peripheral areas. The region noted that previous support from the Just Transition Fund enabled over 600 projects totaling 17.8 billion CZK, helping to create jobs and improve services in areas facing economic decline and population loss.
