Morelet's crocodile rescued from public park in Tonalá

A Morelet's crocodile was rescued from a public park in Tonalá, Mexico, and placed under the care of the Tlajomulco Wildlife Rescue Unit (URFST). The reptile, a male weighing 1.425 kilograms and measuring 84.5 centimeters in length, was captured by a local citizen and delivered to a fire station before specialists took over.

Veterinarians are currently evaluating the animal's health and conducting parasite studies. While the crocodile appears to be in good physical condition with no visible injuries, officials noted that the species is not native to the Pacific coast, as its natural habitat is the Gulf of Mexico. Because of this, the specimen will remain in custody while federal authorities determine an appropriate permanent location for its relocation.
