Morelia authorities rescue elderly woman locked in home

Authorities in Morelia, Michoacán, rescued an 83-year-old woman who had been found locked inside a residence in the Obrera neighborhood. The woman was discovered after neighbors reported hearing cries for help.

Upon arrival, Morelia Police and state firefighters found the home's main door secured with an external padlock, preventing the woman from exiting. Inside, the elderly woman had suffered a fall and was experiencing back pain. She informed officials that she had recently arrived in the city and has no family in the area.

Neighbors stated the woman had been living in the house for approximately 15 days and noted the door had remained padlocked from the outside during that time. Following a medical evaluation, she was found to be stable and was transferred to the Municipal DIF for protection and comprehensive assessment. Authorities are investigating the circumstances to determine if the situation constitutes a crime or abandonment.
