Morelia cable car project reaches 85 percent completion
The first phase of the Morelia cable car system is nearing completion, with construction currently at 85 percent. The initial stage will connect Estadio Morelos to the Lázaro Cárdenas obelisk via four stations, providing a transit alternative intended to reduce travel times by up to 45 percent.
Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla stated that the project aims to provide sustainable and accessible mass transit for students, workers, and people with disabilities. Technical testing is currently underway, including cabin route trials, electrical connection checks, and load and braking tests to ensure operational safety before certification.
The total project will span 7.2 kilometers across two phases. The second phase will extend from the obelisk to Santa María through three additional stations. The state investment for the project totals 2.5 billion pesos, which the governor noted was funded without incurring public debt.
