Morelia considers alcohol restrictions for patriotic holidays
Authorities in Morelia, Michoacán, are considering restrictions on the sale of alcohol to-go near the historic center during upcoming patriotic holiday celebrations. If implemented, the measure would prohibit approximately 80 businesses, including convenience stores and pharmacies, from selling alcohol for takeout near concert venues on September 15, 16, 29, and 30.
City Secretary Yankel Benítez Silva noted that restaurants, bars, and cafes would continue to operate normally. This approach follows a trend of replacing total alcohol bans with targeted restrictions around mass public events to manage safety and order.
