Morelia expands cable car system with new university station

The city of Morelia is expanding its cable car system with the addition of Station 5, located at the Ciudad Universitaria of the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (UMSNH). This infrastructure project, part of an initial phase covering 5.6 kilometers between Estadio Morelos and the Benito Juárez Zoo, aims to provide a modern and sustainable transportation alternative for students and the general public.

Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla noted that the system will significantly reduce travel times for thousands of students. The project involves an investment of 1,917 million pesos, with a fare set at 12 pesos to ensure accessibility. The system is expected to benefit more than 22,000 people daily during its operating hours of 5:00 to 23:00.

Separately, UMSNH Rector Yarabí Ávila González highlighted the university's role as an intellectual driver for the state of Michoacán. During a graduation ceremony, she discussed institutional transformations, including a 57 percent reduction in the cost of degree processing fees to facilitate graduates' entry into the workforce.
