Morelia government distributes solar heaters to vulnerable families

The government of Morelia, Michoacán, is distributing solar heaters to vulnerable families as part of its 'Vivienda Digna para el Bien Común' program. The initiative, led by Mayor Alfonso Martínez Alcázar, aims to provide access to hot water and reduce household expenditures on LP gas.

This year, the municipality has allocated 400 solar heaters for distribution across various sectors, including the Gertrudis Sánchez, Mariano Escobedo, and Ciudad Jardín neighborhoods. Each 12-tube unit costs the municipality 12,500 pesos, a price that covers the equipment, installation, necessary piping, and a five-year warranty. Approximately 70 percent of the units have already been installed.

In addition to energy assistance, the local administration is addressing educational infrastructure. Since 2024, the city has constructed 50 school roof structures to protect students from extreme weather conditions, with individual projects costing between 900,000 and 1.1 million pesos. Officials noted there are currently 100 pending requests for school roofing projects.
