Morelia hosts Mezcaliza festival and prepares for Ancient Music Festival

Morelia, Michoacán, is hosting several cultural events in 2026. The fourth edition of the Ancient Music Festival is scheduled from September 18 to October 10, 2026. Under the theme “Ancient music for modern ears,” the festival will feature Baroque and 18th-century New Spanish repertoire across various venues in Morelia, Zinapécuaro, Zamora, and Pátzcuaro.

The music festival includes eleven recitals, five of which are free, alongside academic activities at the UNAM Cultural Center. The opening concert will be performed by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Michoacán, directed by Emilio Aranda Mora. Featured performers include the vocal ensemble Turulunegro, the Settecento ensemble, the French-Mexican Ensemble Clérambault, and the Camerata Melancolía.

Additionally, the fifth edition of Mezcaliza 2026 is taking place on September 5 and 6 at the Ceconexpo in Morelia. The festival brings together more than 80 exhibitors specializing in artisanal mezcal, craft beer, distillates, mixology, and traditional Michoacán gastronomy. The event features live distillations, guided tastings, and interactive experiences to promote agave culture and artisanal production processes.
