Morelia launches Second Gregorian Chant and Polyphony Festival

The government of Morelia has launched the Second Gregorian Chant and Polyphony Festival, titled ‘Celso Chávez Mendoza’. The event, themed ‘From Gregorian Chant to Mozart’s Requiem’, aims to preserve and promote musical manifestations that are part of universal history.

Fátima Chávez Alcaraz, the municipal Secretary of Culture, stated that the administration's policy is not only to support the creation of new cultural encounters but to ensure their continuity. The goal is to consolidate these festivals as permanent fixtures of the city's cultural identity, allowing residents to connect with their roots and providing a platform for both local musicians and national groups.

The festival includes performances at the Rectoría del Corazón de María, the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Fátima, and the Morelia Cathedral. The closing concert will feature Mozart’s Requiem K. 626, with participation from various choirs, orchestras, and soloists from institutions such as the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) and the Government of Jalisco.
