Morelia launches video‑surveillance pilot on public minibuses

The Secretariat of Urban Development and Mobility (Sedum) in Morelia, led by María Elena Huerta, has begun a pilot program to install video‑surveillance systems on low‑capacity public transport vehicles (combis). In the first phase, 120 minibuses were equipped with two dome cameras, a passenger‑counting camera, a mobile video device and a panic button.

Live footage from the buses is streamed in real time to the city's Monitoring and Fleet Control Center, which is linked to the C5 security hub of Michoacán. The system is intended to detect risky situations promptly, accelerate incident response and enable security forces to intervene when necessary, as part of Sedum's broader effort to modernise public transport under the state's Mobility and Road Safety Law.
