Morelia reports 36% decrease in commercial robbery
Morelia Mayor Alfonso Martínez Alcázar reported a 36 percent decrease in commercial robbery and a 13 percent decrease in residential robbery within the municipality. He attributed these improvements to the enhanced operational and technological capabilities of the Morelia Police.
While reporting these declines, the mayor noted that the lack of absolute figures and specific timeframes makes it difficult to determine the exact number of cases. He also highlighted a high 'dark figure' of unreported crimes, which complicates the ability to measure true crime incidence solely through official complaints.
In a separate effort to support municipal development, Martínez Alcázar met with heads of the 14 local townships (tenencias) to reaffirm administrative support for security and public works. Despite federal budget cuts, the municipal government continues to prioritize local actions such as school roof construction and river cleaning, while maintaining police presence across all townships.
