Morelos Congress proposes 4% salary raise for staff as deputy pushes occupational health initiative

Deputy Tania Valentina Rodríguez Ruíz presented a legislative proposal in the Morelos State Congress to strengthen occupational health protections for workers. The initiative aims to enforce the Mexican Official Standard NOM‑035‑STPS‑2018, addressing mental‑health risks such as anxiety, depression and burnout that affect an estimated 75 % of the national workforce and at least 40 % of workers in Morelos.

In parallel, the Congress of Morelos formally offered a 4 % wage increase to the unionized staff of the legislative chamber, responding to the Sindicato Único de Trabajadores al Servicio del Poder Legislativo’s demand for a 6.2 % raise. The proposal also includes updates to employee benefits. Negotiations continue, and the legislature noted a projected budget cut of 300 million pesos due to the federal “Plan B” electoral reform. The discussion follows a recent protest on 15 July when demonstrators entered the plenary hall, an incident that remains under investigation.

Both actions reflect the state’s effort to address workplace conditions—through health‑focused legislation and modest salary adjustments—while managing fiscal constraints.
