Morelos government allocates 4 million pesos to Adolfo López Mateos market
The Government of Morelos has authorized nearly 4 million pesos to support merchants at the Adolfo López Mateos (ALM) market in Cuernavaca following a fire on September 13. Governor Margarita González Saravia announced the funds during the market's 62nd anniversary, noting that the first round of economic aid will be distributed via direct checks to 117 merchants who suffered partial or total losses.
In addition to financial aid, infrastructure recovery efforts are underway, including debris removal, electrical system rehabilitation, cleaning, and painting. Local authorities also plan to enhance the area through new murals and road repairs in the surrounding vicinity.
Regarding fire prevention, the director of the supply center, Sara Bello Olmedo, reported that prior to the September fire, only five percent of merchants possessed fire extinguishers. Consequently, a new mandate requires all vendors to acquire extinguishers within two weeks or face sanctions, with daily inspections to follow.
