Morelos Governor seeks regulation of vehicle impound fees
Governor Margarita González Saravia is urging the Morelos State Congress to approve an initiative to regulate vehicle impound lots (corralones) and standardize towing costs. The governor described current practices as “unjust and absurd,” noting that in some municipal-administered facilities, the fees to recover a vehicle can reach up to 100,000 pesos, sometimes exceeding the cost of purchasing a new car.
The proposed legislation aims to establish state-level regulations to prevent arbitrary and excessive charges. While the issue has been a major point of contention for heavy cargo transport workers during recent protests, the governor emphasized that the economic impact affects all citizens, including owners of motorcycles, private cars, trucks, and public transport units.
