Morelos hosts nursing forum on safe medication prescription

More than 230 nursing professionals participated in the 2026 State Nursing Forum in Morelos, organized by the Secretariat of Health through the Health Services of Morelos (SSM). The event focused on strengthening competencies for the safe, ethical, and evidence-based prescription of medications to improve the quality of medical care for the population.

During the forum, Health Secretary Mario Ocampo Ocampo emphasized the necessity of continuous training to ensure professional responsibility and patient safety. Karina Yasmín Ortega Armenta, Director of Medical Care at SSM, highlighted legal advancements published on October 21, 2025, which recognize the autonomous or collaborative prescription of medications by nursing professionals, as well as expanded roles and advanced practice functions.

The forum included representatives from various institutions, such as IMSS, IMSS-Bienestar, ISSSTE, the Secretariat of National Defense, the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM), the Mexican Red Cross, and the Morelos Children's Hospital.
