Mexico regional updates: environmental and infrastructure developments

Various regional developments are underway across Mexico. In Michoacán, Compesca has released 80,000 white fish larvae into Lake Pátzcuaro, bringing the 2026 total to 165,000 to support native species and local fishing. Additionally, the San Pedrito pier has launched a community tourism project, “Navega con el alma,” featuring new electric boats to provide silent, eco-friendly tours for visitors.

In Morelia, the Morebús transit project is progressing with environmental and social initiatives. This includes the transplantation of 28 rescued trees to strengthen urban green spaces and a broader reforestation plan of 32,000 trees. The transit system is also expected to improve economic connectivity for 400,000 residents and enhance safety for female commuters through improved lighting and surveillance.

Other regional news includes the rehabilitation of sports facilities in Toluca through public-private partnerships, and reports of illegal public transport fare hikes in Morelos. In Zacatecas, the employed population grew by over 28,000 people during the second quarter of 2026, led by the primary and secondary sectors.
