Morelos inmates transferred to Coahuila maximum-security prison
Mexican authorities, supported by federal and state forces and the Mexican Air Force, have transferred eight high-risk inmates from Morelos to the Cefereso 18 maximum-security prison in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila. The transfer aims to dismantle extortion networks, as the inmates were reportedly continuing to conduct ‘cobro de piso’ (protection racket) and extortion calls from within their cells.
In a separate move to improve prison conditions, 304 women were relocated from the Atlacholoaya prison to the new Female Reinsertion Center in Cuernavaca. This new facility is designed with specialized infrastructure for medical care, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities.
