Mexico's Veracruz halves debt as federal government launches large vehicle‑leasing tender
Governor Rocío Nahle announced that Veracruz reduced its state debt from 119 billion to about 58 billion pesos, citing a financial‑sanitation program that paid historic liabilities and ended the abusive vehicle‑financing scheme that had burdened 199 municipalities for more than two decades. The settlement recovered 1.85 billion pesos from a trust and allowed the state to clear the remaining obligations without further charges to the municipalities.
Separately, the federal government opened a consolidated public‑procurement tender (LA‑06‑400‑006400001‑N‑11‑2026) to lease between 10,422 and 18,217 vehicles for over 90 federal agencies. The scheme aims to achieve economies of scale, lower costs and improve efficiency in public‑vehicle management, with contracts running for 48 months and funded through the 2026‑2030 fiscal years. Eleven firms submitted proposals, and the process is overseen by the Secretariat of Finance and the Anti‑Corruption Office.
