Morelos teachers strike over 60 million peso debt

Teachers at 11 DGETI educational centers in Morelos, including CBTIS, CETIS, and CBTA campuses, have initiated a two-day strike, disrupting the start of the 2026-2027 school year. The protest is driven by a budget deficit exceeding 60 million pesos, which has left approximately 450 teachers without retirement bonuses for three years.

Morelos Secretary of Education, Karla Aline Herrera Alonso, stated that the debt is a federal responsibility, though she acknowledged the long-standing nature of the unpaid obligations. The strike affects a community of more than 3,500 workers within the DGETI system.
