Morelos textile cooperative secures federal government contracts
The Corazones Fuertes de Morelos (COFUMOR) textile cooperative, based in Cuernavaca, has inaugurated its rehabilitated and equipped production facilities. Supported by an investment of approximately 15.1 million pesos, the collective aims to promote economic autonomy for its 24 female members through social economy models.
Catalina Monreal Pérez, director general of the National Institute of Social Economy (INAES), announced that the cooperative will produce uniforms for five cleaning cooperatives that provide services to ten federal government agencies in Mexico City. Additionally, negotiations are underway with public health institutions, including IMSS-Bienestar and ISSSTE, to supply hospital textiles such as sheets, gowns, and blankets.
Morelos Governor Margarita González Saravia and federal officials emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen women's economic independence through collective organization and solidarity-based work.
