Morelos transport officials fine drivers for denying seniors and warn against illegal taxi surcharges

The Morelos State Coordination of Mobility and Transport imposed fines of 5,856 pesos (50 UMA) on ten public‑transport operators after a simulated‑passenger operation revealed they refused service to senior citizens and failed to apply the legally mandated 5‑peso preferential fare. Coordinator Jorge Barrera Toledo said the sanctions are part of a permanent effort to enforce fare rules and improve service quality.

Barrera Toledo also warned taxi drivers that any unilateral increase of the minimum fare, even in poorly maintained or remote neighborhoods, is illegal and will be heavily penalised. The agency is working with municipal authorities to repair deteriorated roads and encourages the public to report any irregularities.

These actions aim to protect vulnerable riders and ensure uniform pricing across the state’s transport network.
