Morelos transport operators accused of fare fraud and safety violations
Public transportation users in Morelos have reported fraudulent activities by transport concessionaires, including the use of falsified logos from the state’s General Coordination of Mobility and Transport. These counterfeit documents are allegedly being used to justify unauthorized increases in preferential fares for senior citizens, who are being charged more than the official 5-peso rate.
In addition to fare discrepancies, inspections conducted by state authorities in the Cuernavaca metropolitan area have revealed significant safety and regulatory violations. Common issues identified include bald tires, broken lights, cracked windshields, and damaged seating. Some vehicles were found operating without valid insurance policies. Under the SUMEMOS program, authorities are conducting random checks and can issue fines of up to 23,462 pesos or remove license plates for serious infractions.
