Morena accuses PRI of large‑scale vote buying in Coahuila

Morena has filed a formal complaint alleging that the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) engaged in systematic vote buying and intimidation during the recent state legislative elections in Coahuila, Mexico. National Morena leader Ariadna Montiel said, “Todos los votos fueron pagados y lo vamos a demostrar,” and presented evidence of QR‑code mechanisms used to pay voters up to 500 pesos. The party also reported that more than 200 Morena supporters were detained by state police and prosecutors, and that candidates and activists faced harassment and vehicle tracking.

Morena’s state coordinator Diego del Bosque added that the financial trail is traceable, stating, “Al estar dentro del sistema financiero es totalmente rastreable.” The complaint has been submitted to the Coahuila electoral institute and the Financial Intelligence Unit for investigation into the source of the alleged funds.

The PRI, meanwhile, maintains that the election was peaceful and its victory in all 16 districts reflects a free choice by voters.
