Agar Malwa accident kills eight devotees swept away by swollen stream

Eight people, including three children and two women, died after their vehicle was swept away by a rain-swollen stream near the Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Nalkheda, Agar Malwa district, Madhya Pradesh. The victims, primarily residents of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, were on a religious pilgrimage and had hired a car from Ujjain to visit the shrine.

Preliminary investigations suggest the driver attempted to cross the overflowing stream amid strong currents following heavy rainfall in the region. The vehicle, a Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, was recovered by rescue teams, but all occupants were found trapped inside and declared dead on arrival.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families. The Odisha government is coordinating with Madhya Pradesh authorities to ensure the mortal remains are transported back to Bhubaneswar with dignity. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced ex-gratia payments of 4 lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased.
