Morena faces wave of resignations in Mexico

Several political figures in Mexico have resigned from the Morena party, citing internal divisions and a lack of institutional support.

In Naucalpan, Juan José Olivas Islas, a political counselor with nine years of membership, formally resigned from Morena. His departure was accompanied by at least six other militants, including Martín Oscar Mora Martínez and María Silvia Jasso Márquez. Olivas criticized the party for drifting from its founding principles and leveled accusations against the Naucalpan administration led by Isaac Martín Montoya Márquez, alleging abuses of power, political persecution, and corruption. He also claimed that the party leadership failed to act sufficiently regarding concerns about his family's security.

In Silao, Guanajuato, councilwoman Elizabeth Monreal Reyes announced her departure from Morena to join Movimiento Ciudadano. Monreal Reyes stated that the Morena State Delegation failed to provide legal or political support to local representatives, leaving them to operate without backing. She criticized the party for a lack of teamwork and congruence, asserting that she chose to leave because the organization no longer respected its values or its citizens.
