Morena founders endorse Martín Chaparro for Chihuahua mayoralty

Founding members and militants of the Morena party in Chihuahua have announced their support for professor Martín Chaparro Payán. They are seeking his designation as the municipal coordinator for the Defense of the Transformation, a move intended to position him as a candidate for the Mayoralty of Chihuahua in 2027.

Supporters, including teacher Rosa Lilia Cardona, argue that Chaparro Payán possesses the necessary party experience and proximity to social causes. They expressed concern regarding newer members joining the party, whom they characterized as opportunistic individuals seeking to use the party brand without adhering to its original principles and values.

During the announcement, Chaparro Payán, a former state leader for Morena, emphasized his commitment to the movement and noted the importance of defending progressive governments in Latin America against international right-wing pressures.
