Morena registers hundreds of candidates for 2027 elections amid alliance shifts

The first day of Morena’s internal registration for the 2027 gubernatorial and legislative elections took place on 22 June 2026, with aspirants filing in Aguascalientes, Baja California, Baja California Sur and Campeche. About 40 candidates signed up that day, and party officials expect a total of 130‑140 registrants across the 17 states that will hold elections in 2027. The process involves Morena, the Labor Party (PT) and the Ecologist Green Party (PVEM), although the PVEM has announced it will run independently in Colima after breaking its alliance with Morena.

Deputy Ricardo Monreal, leader of Morena’s parliamentary group, said the coalition will retain a qualified or absolute majority in the Chamber of Deputies in 2027, while noting that opposition‑governed states such as Querétaro, Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Nuevo León and Jalisco will be competitive. Senator Félix Salgado Macedonio has not decided whether to seek the coordination in Guerrero, and senator Gino Segura asked for leave to campaign for the Quintana Roo candidacy. In Campeche, four aspirants linked to Morena, PT and PVEM face investigations for alleged fund misappropriation and other irregularities.
