Morena party distances itself from Governor Mara Lezama over private jet use
The Morena political party has distanced itself from Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama following reports regarding her use of private jets. National Morena leader Ariadna Montiel stated that the party does not support these actions, emphasizing that the movement's strength lies in its proximity to the people and its commitment to combating corruption and privilege.
Reports indicate Lezama may have taken approximately 97 private flights to destinations such as Orlando, Florida, and Vail, Colorado, with costs per trip estimated between 400,000 and 800,000 pesos. Some reports suggest total costs could reach 20 million pesos. While Lezama has characterized the trips as family-related, critics have raised concerns regarding the principle of 'republican austerity' and potential conflicts of interest if the aircraft belonged to a government contractor.
President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the situation, supporting the Governor's claim that the trips were funded with personal resources, though she noted the matter should be reviewed to prevent unfounded judgments.
