Morgan Stanley delays tokenized stock trading until 2027

Morgan Stanley has announced a delay in its plans to support tokenized stocks on its alternative trading platform, shifting the target to the first quarter of 2027 from the previously anticipated second half of 2026.

Amy Oldenburg, head of digital asset strategy at the bank, stated that while the necessary infrastructure is being developed, the market currently lacks a sufficient variety of suitable financial products and a mature market structure. The delay is viewed as a necessary adjustment to sector developments rather than a change in strategic direction.

Despite the delay, the bank anticipates significant growth in the market for tokenized real-world assets. Oldenburg indicated that the market could reach between $3 trillion and $10 trillion by 2030. The bank's objective is to integrate digital assets into a regulated Alternative Trading System, allowing clients to invest in and manage assets through both conventional and blockchain-based structures.
