Morgan State University alumni petition against homecoming restrictions
Alumni of Morgan State University have launched a petition challenging several new restrictions implemented for the school’s homecoming celebrations. The petition requests that university leadership reconsider a 5 p.m. cutoff for on-campus activities, relax alcohol restrictions within tailgate tents, and address the rising costs of Tent City, which some participants report has reached approximately $1,500.
The university introduced tighter protocols, including the evening cutoff, following safety concerns. In 2023, homecoming activities were canceled after five people, including four students, were shot on campus. These measures have coincided with a decline in attendance, dropping from an estimated 40,000 to 45,000 in 2024 to roughly 35,000 in 2025.
Morgan State President David Wilson addressed the alumni in a letter, stating that the 2026 homecoming protocols will remain unchanged. However, he noted that alumni will be able to provide feedback when the university begins reviewing plans for the 2027 homecoming.
