Morgantown officials advance urban planning and infrastructure projects
The Morgantown City Council and the Monongalia County Commission are addressing various local infrastructure and urban planning initiatives. The County Commission has issued a letter of support for the Morgantown Greenbelt concept, an ambitious vision to create a continuous circuit of parks, rail trails, and public lands to improve connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians between neighborhoods, schools, and local businesses.
During a recent City Council meeting, several municipal updates were discussed, including a $4.6 million water project in the Morgan Run area to replace water lines and add fire hydrants. The council also addressed the Greenmont Neighborhood Project, which includes a new information kiosk, and the ongoing Urban Bow Hunt aimed at managing the deer population and providing venison to local food pantries. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the use of opioid settlement funds for the purchase of Flock Safety license plate tracking cameras following a $180,000 contract approved by the Monongalia County Commission.
