Moringa (chùm ngây) leaves examined as superfood, scientists caution limited evidence

Moringa oleifera, known locally as chùm ngây, is a fast‑growing plant whose leaves are rich in vitamins A, C, E, K, B‑complex, minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron, as well as dietary fiber and plant protein. The leaves also contain antioxidant compounds like flavonoids, polyphenols and quercetin.

Small‑scale studies and animal experiments have suggested possible benefits for cardiovascular health, blood‑sugar regulation and reduction of oxidative stress. However, most research remains limited in size, often conducted on animals or in laboratory settings, and no definitive clinical evidence confirms that chùm ngây can treat or prevent disease. Nutrition experts emphasize that no single food can replace a balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep and routine medical check‑ups. Consumers are advised to incorporate the leaves as a vegetable in soups, stir‑fries or smoothies rather than relying on powdered supplements as a meal substitute.
