Morioka to host 14th Nippon Tofu-ya Summit in October 2026
The 14th Nippon Tofu-ya Summit in Iwate is scheduled to take place in Morioka on October 3–4, 2026. Organized by the North Tohoku Tofu Distribution Council and the National Tofu Association of Japan, the event aims to revitalize the industry and preserve regional food culture.
The summit comes at a critical time for tofu manufacturers, who are facing challenges such as rising raw material costs and a shortage of successors. The event will feature the 10th National Tofu Competition awards ceremony, where winners in four categories—silken, firm, mixed, and filled tofu—will be announced.
For the general public, the “Otofu Matsuri in Morioka” will run concurrently, offering a tasting event of approximately 100 varieties of tofu, including selections from the “2026 Tofu Top 100.” Other activities include tofu-making workshops and a popularity vote for tofu in the North Tohoku region. The theme for the summit is “TO THE FUTURE: Tofu, to the Future,” focusing on tradition and succession.
