Morning natural light and coffee‑ground reuse boost alertness and garden health

Exposure to natural morning light for about 15 minutes signals the brain to lower melatonin, jump‑starting the circadian rhythm and improving alertness for the day. A short walk outdoors or even brief time near a window can provide the needed light, helping people feel more awake and sleep better at night.

Used coffee grounds can serve two purposes in the garden. When dried and slowly smoldered in a heat‑resistant container outdoors, the resulting smoke deters mosquitoes, flies and wasps. In small quantities the grounds can also be mixed into compost or the top layer of soil to add organic matter, but large amounts should be avoided because they can compact the soil and hinder water and air flow. Safety precautions include keeping the smoldering grounds away from flammable material and out of reach of children and pets.
