Bank Al-Maghrib has issued a warning to Moroccan banks to heighten vigilance against cyber‑criminal campaigns exploiting public interest in the FIFA World Cup. The central bank highlighted a rise in fraudulent schemes that use fake applications, unofficial match‑streaming platforms and phishing messages to steal login credentials and banking details. It urged banks to intensify client education, reminding users to verify the authenticity of any app or website before entering personal or financial information, to avoid links received via email, SMS, instant‑messaging or social media, and to promptly report any suspicious activity or unauthorized transactions.

The directive emphasizes that banks should reinforce messages about checking the legitimacy of sites, avoiding promotional promises of exclusive content, and confirming the credibility of streaming services. By amplifying these alerts, Bank Al-Maghrib aims to protect consumers from fraud that commonly spikes around major sporting events.
