Moroccan football fans demand sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla

During a recent football match in Casablanca, supporters of Wydad Athletic Club used the sporting event to express political demands regarding the sovereignty of Ceuta and Melilla. The "Winners" ultra group displayed a large banner written in Spanish stating, “For Ceuta and Melilla, Morocco does not surrender, nor its people.”

This display of national sentiment occurs amid ongoing diplomatic tensions between Morocco and Spain, as well as a migration crisis in the region. The use of Spanish on the banners highlights the direct nature of the message aimed at the Spanish-controlled territories. While the Moroccan league has not made official statements regarding the banners, the club permitted the display within the supporters' section.
