Moroccan groups condemn tearing of national flag in Madrid

Moroccan political entities have condemned the tearing of the Moroccan national flag by protesters in Madrid, Spain. The Morocco Tomorrow Movement described the incident as ‘provocative actions’ that insult national sovereignty and the feelings of the Moroccan people.

The movement called on Spanish authorities to conduct a serious investigation into the circumstances of the event to ensure respect for national symbols and maintain the values of coexistence. They emphasized that freedom of expression should not serve as a cover for hate speech or attacks on the dignity of nations.

Similarly, the Popular Movement Party, through a statement by Secretary-General Mohammed Ouzzine, denounced the act as unacceptable. The party stated that such behavior does not deter Morocco from pursuing friendship and cooperation with Spain, but stressed that sovereignty and dignity are non-negotiable. The party urged Spanish political actors to act responsibly and prioritize dialogue to avoid reintroducing tension between the two countries.
