Moroccan Jewish Culture Museum opens in Fes
The Moroccan Jewish Culture Museum has officially opened in the historic Mellah district of Fes. Spanning over 1,700 square meters, the facility includes 1,200 square meters of exhibition space designed with traditional Moroccan architectural elements such as zellij tilework and carved plaster.
The museum’s permanent collection traces more than 2,500 years of Jewish presence in Morocco. Exhibits include rare books, manuscripts, archives, religious artifacts, and everyday objects. The collection highlights historical milestones, such as the establishment of the Fes Mellah in 1438 and the arrival of Jewish refugees from Spain in 1492.
Visitors can explore various aspects of Jewish life, including community institutions like synagogues and Hebrew schools, as well as traditions surrounding life cycles and religious holidays. The museum also features displays of traditional crafts, including jewelry, textiles, and musical instruments, supported by audiovisual and digital media.
