Moroccan lawyers launch week‑long strike over Justice Minister Wahbi's remarks

From 15 June 2026, lawyers nationwide in Morocco began a professional strike that will last until 21 June, suspending court activities across the country. The action follows a decision by the Bar Association to protest statements made by Justice Minister Abdul Latif Wahbi, which the legal profession deemed insulting and indicative of a lack of consultation on reforms to the legal sector.

The strike has resulted in a shutdown of courts, delaying numerous cases and affecting the rights of citizens awaiting judicial decisions. The Bar Association has also sent a letter to the prime minister demanding dialogue and has announced further media outreach to clarify its position.
