Moroccan man denied bail after second attempt to enter Ireland with fake passport

Mohamad Alami, a 29-year-old Moroccan man, has been denied bail after being arrested at Dublin Airport for attempting to enter Ireland using a suspected fraudulent French passport. This incident marks Alami’s second attempt to use such a document to enter the country; he was arrested for a similar offense two years ago.

During the Dublin District Court hearing, Detective Sergeant Patrick Whelan opposed bail, citing concerns that Alami would flee to Canada, which was his intended destination, or re-offend. The court heard that Alami has no known address in Ireland. While Alami requested to return to Morocco due to reported heart conditions and psychological stress, Judge Mark O'Connell remanded him in custody. Alami is scheduled to appear in court again on September 4.
