Moroccan mother of six granted temporary stay of deportation in France

A Moroccan mother of six, Nisrine Driouich, has been granted a temporary reprieve from deportation from France. Although she was previously ordered to leave the country by August 23, the prefect of Haute-Saône suspended the expulsion order while her legal appeals are processed.

Driouich arrived in France in 2021 to join her husband, who holds a residence permit and works at a Stellantis factory. The couple has since had two more children in France, bringing the total number of children to six, ranging in age from 21 months to 17 years.

The case gained attention after a planned deportation to Morocco was interrupted when Driouich fell ill while en route to the airport. A judge previously ruled that her detention was unjustified, citing the best interests of her 21-month-old child, who is still breastfeeding.

Driouich’s efforts to regularize her status have faced a circular challenge: her residency application was denied because she lacks pay stubs, yet potential employers are unable to provide contracts until she obtains legal residency status.
