Moroccan women's group warns of financial bargaining for political endorsements

The Democratic Association of Moroccan Women has issued a warning regarding practices during the preparation for upcoming elections, specifically concerning the process of obtaining political endorsements. The association expressed concern that party endorsements are being transformed into a domain of financial bargaining, personal influence, and loyalty rather than being based on political competence and integrity.

The group highlighted that requiring financial contributions or demonstrating personal influence to secure nominations poses a serious democratic challenge. They noted that this trend particularly threatens the 90 seats designated to enhance women's political representation, arguing that such practices undermine the philosophy of positive discrimination and turn political empowerment into a matter of supply and demand.

Furthermore, the association characterized these practices as a form of political violence and discrimination against women. They called for the criminalization of political violence against women and the establishment of legal mechanisms to prevent and report such behavior, ensuring that the right to political participation is not conditional upon financial capacity or personal allegiance.
