Moroccan women's rights group criticizes government program ambiguity

The Democratic Association of Moroccan Women has criticized the new government program for the 2026-2031 term, citing a lack of clarity regarding commitments to women's rights and gender equality.

The association warned that while the program includes pledges related to economic empowerment, combating violence, and increasing women's participation in decision-making roles, these commitments remain general. They noted a significant disparity between these broad statements and the detailed objectives, timelines, and resource allocations provided for other economic and social sectors.

The group called on the Head of Government to provide specific answers to Parliament regarding concrete measures, budgets, and implementation mechanisms. They emphasized that the symbolic significance of Morocco having its first female Head of Government must be matched by substantive policy changes that improve the actual conditions of women and girls through legislative reforms in the family code, criminal law, and labor law.
