Morocco achieves strong start at Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games
The Moroccan delegation has achieved a strong start at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games in Italy. Representing the nation with 120 athletes across 18 sports, Morocco has already secured several medals, most notably in Taekwondo.
In Taekwondo, Sofiane El Asbi won the gold medal in the over 80kg category after defeating Croatia’s Ivan Sabina. Other successes in the sport include silver medals for Haythem Zerhouati (under 80kg) and Amina Dahaoi (under 57kg), as well as a bronze medal for Nada Laarej (under 67kg).
In football, the Moroccan U-20 men’s team advanced to the semi-finals following a 5-1 victory over North Macedonia, finishing second in their group. The U-17 women’s team also showed strong form with a 4-0 win against Kosovo and is set to face host nation Italy in their final group match.
